Rikki-tikki-tavi is an Indian mongoose who lives in Segowlee cantonment during the time of British rule of of India. He had lived with his mother and father in a burrow.
One day, a high summer flood washed him out of his home and he nearly drowned. He was found by a human family who had moved from Britain to India as part of the British army and he was restored back to health. He had always wanted to be a house mongoose and live with humans.
